About Kharkiv State Zooveterinary Academy, Ukraine

Kharkiv State Zooveterinary Academy (HDZVA) is one of the oldest agricultural establishments in Ukraine.

For more than 200 years it made its way from the department of animal treatment to an independent higher educational institution. About 40 thousand specialists have been prepared at the Academy for Ukraine and 78 countries of the world.

The foreign students can get education at the Academy in the following directions:

“Veterinary Medicine” (“Veterinary Medicine on species”, “Laboratory diagnosis of animal diseases”), “Veterinary hygiene, sanitary and expertise” (in Ukrainian,Russian, English).

There are 6 museums with a rich exposition and unique exhibits at the Academy. The fund of the library has more than 250,000 books. In four dormitories of the Academy, 1200 students can be accommodated. Kharkiv is the largest center of club youth culture in Ukraine. A great number of recreation areas of high European level are located in this city. There are churches of all religious confessions. TheAcademy is situated in the ecological place on the territory of “Lozovenkovsky”forest reserve.

The education policy of HDZVA includes quality assurance, university management, and international contacts within the scope of the university’s competence. Learning of foreign students is carried out in groups together with Ukrainian students or in separate groups. After graduation foreign students are given diplomas of the appropriate level of learning and conduct their legalisation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Kharkiv State Zooveterinary Academy MBBS Syllabus

– Faculty of Veterinary Medicine which consists of 15 departments: veterinary reproductology; anatomy and histology named after professor T.G. Tsimbal; epizootology and veterinary management; internal diseases of animals; hygiene of animals and veterinary sanitation; clinical diagnostics and clinical biochemistry; microbiology, virology and immunology; parasitology; pathoanatomy and section of animals; pharmacology and toxicology; normal and pathological physiology of animals; surgery; chemistry and biochemistry; sanitary expertise and judicial veterinary medicine. There is an educational-scientific laboratory of molecular-genetic methods of research at the Faculty.

Faculty of Technologies of Stock-raising Products and Management includes seven departments: genetics, breeding and selective technologies;technologies of forage and feeding of animals; technologies of stock-raisingand poultry farming; informative systems, projecting and technologies instock-raising; technologies of processing and standardization of stock-raising products;management, economy and marketing.

Faculty of Biotechnologies and Nature Management consists offour departments: philosophyand social sciences; biotechnology; applied ecology; applied biology, waterbioresources and hunting management.

All departments are headed by experiencedand authoritative scientific and pedagogical staff.

Veterinary Medicine Course History at HDZVA:

The history of the faculty of Veterinary Medicine started in 1805 when thedepartment of animals’ treatment was organized by a prominent scientist, professorF.V. Pilger at the medical faculty of Kharkiv University. Later it wasreorganized into the department of epizootology with veterinary police.

In 1839 due to the persistence of the prominent professor K.F. Vishnevsky veterinary school was created which worked till 1851. The same year the veterinary school became independent and Kharkiv veterinary college was founded.

From 1960 the preparation of specialists of veterinary medicine was carried out at Zooveterinary Institute and from 2001 continued at Kharkiv State Zooveterinary Academy.

The faculty carries out preparation of specialists at the specialty 211 “Veterinary medicine” and the specialty 212 “Veterinary hygiene, sanitation and expertise” that have IV level of accreditation licensed for the preparation of Master’s degree. Graduates will have the qualification of “Doctor of Veterinary Medicine” and “Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in safety and quality of agricultural and food products”.

An educational process at the faculty “Veterinary Medicine” is provided by highly skilled professors and teachers. There are 115 teachers including 16 professors and doctors of sciences, 78 candidates of sciences and assistant professors.

The faculty carries out the preparation of specialists according to the state order and agreements with legal and physical persons. Today more than 1100 students of different educational levels study at the Faculty.

One of the priority directions to prepare highly skilled doctors of Veterinary Medicine is practical preparation of future specialists at the faculty. For this purpose the scientific and training center were created with all necessary things to carry out laboratory and practical classes on animals (cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, etc.). In addition, in order to provide clinical training in basic disciplines a vivarium has been created on the territory of the faculty which holds about 30 heads of various animals.

All departments of the faculty have lecture halls to carry out laboratory and practical classes, scientific laboratories and supplementary apartments. Clinics of the departments of internal diseases, clinical diagnostics, surgery and animal reproductology, epizootology and veterinary management, parasitology are located in separate apartments. The departments of surgery and animal reproductology are equipped with operation halls and has the Center of artificial insemination; there is also X-ray room and a room for carrying out USI investigations. There is also a laboratory of electronic and light microscopy at the Faculty. Preparations and exhibits of anatomical, pathoanatomical and parasitological museums are also used in the educational process. At the department of epizootology and veterinary management educational-scientific laboratory of molecular and genetic methods of research named after P.I. Verbytsky was created where students can have practical classes to develop practical skills with modern methods of diagnostics of infectious diseases of agricultural animals and poultry on the newest laboratory equipment (PCR, IFA, luminescent microscopy, modern analyzer of blood biochemistry, etc.) and conduct Master’s degree works.

At Kharkiv State Zooveterinary Academy considerable attention is paid to the training of scientific-pedagogical personnel at the Department of postgraduate study.

Eligibility Criteria

Below given are the eligibility criteria to study MBBS at Kharkiv State Zooveterinary Academy:

  • The candidate must be 17 years old on or before 31st December of the year in which the admission is being taken.
  • The applicants must have cleared NEET exam.
  • All the candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as elective subjects and acquired at least half in a total of PCB joined. Also, students must have studied and passed English as an obligatory subject.
  • The candidate must have scored a minimum 50% of marks in subjects like Physics, Biology, Chemistry combined.

Admission Procedure

The admission process for taking admission to Kharkiv State Zooveterinary Academy is mentioned below step by step:
